A Decentralized Sub Account represents a customer or business that maintains independent billing methods for postage and other carrier-related fees, which are managed directly by EasyPost.
Create a Decentralized Sub Account
Decentralized Sub Accounts can be created directly through the Forge Sub Accounts page.
- Select Sub Accounts from the left-hand menu in Forge.
- Click on the New Referral Account button.
- Complete the Account Name and Account Details fields.
Note: The Account Name cannot be edited once saved.
- Click Create Account to complete the setup.
Note: For API-based creation of Decentralized Sub Accounts, refer to the Decentralized Quick Start API Guide.
Add and Manage Payment Methods for a Sub Account
Adding a payment method and establishing a wallet is required for each Decentralized Sub Account to enable EasyPost-managed billing. These configurations allow EasyPost to handle all billing and reconciliation directly, removing the need for platforms to manage payments on behalf of their sub accounts.
- Navigate to the Sub Account Details page.
- Scroll to the Wallet and Billing section and select Setup Wallet.
- Choose a payment method: credit card or bank account, both powered by Stripe.
- Follow the Stripe-powered payment method form to securely enter payment method details on behalf of the sub account.
Wallet Auto-Reload Settings
The EasyPost Wallet will automatically reload a user-specified amount when the wallet balance falls below a designated recharge threshold. This feature is required for all Decentralized Sub Accounts using EasyPost-managed billing.
Configure the following settings:
- Amount: The dollar value to reload the wallet.
-
Recharge Trigger: The wallet balance threshold that initiates the reload.
Once wallet and payment settings are saved, EasyPost will manage billing and reconciliation for the sub account.
Optional: A backup payment method may be added to ensure uninterrupted service if the primary payment method fails.
