Overview
Forge Sub Account Groups allow platforms to organize sub-accounts into defined cohorts for shared configuration and pricing control.
Groups support pricing segmentation by enabling shared FlexRate configurations across multiple sub-accounts.
Sub Account Groups are typically used with Forge FlexRate to apply consistent pricing rules to defined segments of sub-accounts.
Prerequisites
- A Forge-enabled EasyPost account.
- Administrative access to the Forge Dashboard.
- FlexRate enabled (if configuring pricing rules at the group level)
Creating a Sub Account Group
Sub Account Groups are created in the Forge Dashboard.
- Log in to the EasyPost Dashboard.
- Navigate to Sub Accounts.
- In the Additional Settings section, select Sub Account Grouping.
- Enter a unique Sub Account Group Name. Each group name must be unique.
- Under Group Settings, Enable FlexRate, and select a FlexRate Adjustment if applicable.
- Select Assign Sub Accounts.
- Select one or more sub-accounts and click Create Group.
Managing Groups
Groups may be managed from the Sub Accounts page or the Sub Account Management view.
Sub-accounts may be added to or removed from a group at any time.
- A sub-account may belong to only one group.
- If removed from a group, the sub-account automatically falls back to the global configuration.
- Group changes apply immediately to future rate evaluations.
Group updates are reflected in the Sub Account Management view.
How Group Rules are Evaluated
When a shipment rate is generated, Forge evaluates pricing rules using the following hierarchy:
- User-specific rule
- Sub Account Group rule
- Global rule
If a user-specific rule exists, it overrides group-level rules.
If no user-specific rules exists and the sub-account belongs to a group with configured rules, group rules apply
If neither exists, global rules apply.
The selected FlexRate adjustment type determines how applicable rules are calculated within the active scope. Refer to the Forge FlexRate (Rate Adjustments) article for detailed evaluation behavior.
Applying Rate Adjustments to a Group
When FlexRate is enabled for a group, pricing rules configured within that group apply to all assigned sub-accounts.
Supported adjustment types include:
- Standard (single-rule evaluation)
- Hierarchical (precedence-based evaluation)
- Cumulative (additive evaluation)
Group-based adjustments may include:
- Global adjustments
- Carrier and service level adjustments
- Weight-based adjustments
- Zone-based adjustments
- Surcharge-based adjustments
Refer to the Forge FlexRate (Rate Adjustments) article for detailed configuration guidance.
Best Practices
- Define pricing segmentation strategy before creating multiple groups.
- Use clear, descriptive group names (e.g., High Volume, Enterprise Tier).
- Avoid creating single-account groups unless user-specific pricing is required.
- Review group assignments regularly to ensure pricing alignment.
- Validate pricing results in test shipments after rule changes.
