Review key metrics displayed on the Insights dashboard:
Delivery Performance
Monitor transit performance for all packages purchased through the EasyPost API. Access package-level details through drill-down capabilities and download reports directly from the browser.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Cartons Delivered: Unique count of delivered packages.
- Average Transit Days: Average number of calendar days between the first in-transit event (typically the origin scan) and the first delivery event. Delivery events include actual delivery time, delivery attempt, or the time the package was made available for pickup.
- Average Distance: Average number of straight-line miles between the origin and destination U.S. ZIP codes, calculated based on latitude and longitude.
-
Carrier Late Packages and On-Time Percentage: Measured based on the estimated delivery date or transit time provided by the carrier at the time of label purchase. The calculation offsets the delivery date based on when the first in-transit or pickup event occurred.
Example: If carrier pickup occurs two days after label purchase, the required delivery date is offset by two business days. Packages delivered on or before the required delivery date are considered on time; otherwise, they are considered late.
Spend Analytics
Track rated cost spend, analyze cost breakdowns, and identify inefficiencies in near real-time instead of waiting for carrier invoices.
KPIs
-
Parcel Spend: Sum of all purchased labels’ rated cost spend. Rated cost includes the full estimated cost for a package, including all surcharges provided by the carrier at the time of label purchase. This excludes weight corrections, address correction surcharges, and additional post-purchase fees. Rated cost typically accounts for 98.5% of all charges. This value is in USD, any international shipments purchased in a different currency are converted based on the currency exchange rate at the time of purchase.
Note: Some EasyPost shipments do not have a rated cost.
- Cost per Package: The total rated cost divided by the number of packages with a valid rate.
- Average Zone: EasyPost normalizes all packages into the USPS zone mapping system, even for non-USPS shipments, to provide cross-carrier benchmarking. Because carriers define zones differently, using USPS zone mapping ensures consistency in performance comparisons.
- Average Weight: Average package weight in ounces, based on data provided during the rating process.
Open Shipments
Monitor undelivered shipments by status and identify aging exceptions.
KPIs
- Open Cartons: The number of distinct packages that have not been delivered or cancelled.
- Average Open Days: The average number of days since label purchase for open shipments.
- Late Cartons: The number of open packages where the required delivery date has passed.
-
Delivery Exceptions:
- Possible Lost Cartons: Packages in transit without a status update of five or more days.
- Pre-Transit Exception Cartons: Packages in pre-transit status without a status update for three or more days.
- Failed Delivery Cartons: Packages marked as failed (e.g., lost, damaged).
- Return to Sender Cartons: Packages in a return-to-sender status. This status is temporary; returned shipments will update to “in-transit” or “delivered” once processed at the origin location.
